The 2006-2010 term of Oakville
council has accomplished all of its major goals:
- Controlled growth with new rules
- Shifted costs of growth to developers
- Opened new recreational and public facilities
- Created a new Official Plan protecting existing and
future neighbourhoods
- Tax supported debt is lower than before this term
- Created an award winning urban forest plan
- Created an award winning heritage plan
- Created an award winning job creation plan
- Created an air quality and health protection plan
- Improved fire response times
- Created more Go parking
- Winning consistently at the OMB
Oakville council has accomplished more in this term, but kept the rate of tax
increases to the same level as the previous four years.
Regional Accomplishments

Stopped the subsidization of new
homes with the property taxes of existing homes. Development charges
were increased to cover the associated costs
- Preserved 49 663
hectares of land from development creating a Regional Natural Heritage System
(in combination with the Greenbelt - Regional Official Plan 38) which is approximately 51% of the Region.
- in 2010 we had a zero % tax
increase.
Ward 4 Accomplishments

Splash pad and playground at West
Oak Trails Community Park.

Completion of the new
baseball
diamonds and the leash free dog run at Palermo Park at Dundas and Postmaster.

Construction of the Oakville Soccer Clubs
indoor soccer facility
at Pine Glen

Expansion of the Glen Abbey Branch
of the Oakville Library.

Resurfacing of the
Tennis Courts at Glen Abbey.

Increased
Speed monitoring by Halton Police.

Completion of the
new bridge over the QEW at Fourth Line.

Opening of 3 New
Schools.

Implementation of the new Grid
Style Oakville Transit
bus
system.

Development and implementation of
the Bronte Road / Hwy 25 bypass of Oakville's Historic
White Oak Tree

Province on Ontario donates 50
acres at Dundas and Third Line for the new 1.5 million sq ft
Hospital.

Major
road resurfacing improvements and the introduction of Bicycle lanes.

Major connector roads are realigned
to enhance
traffic calming
and pedestrian safety. Many new 3 and 4 way stops and traffic signals
introduced.

Many Ward 4 properties had their
property assessment reduced
by MPAC - Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.

Additional
parking spaces added at both the Oakville and Bronte Go Stations to support
Ward 4 commuters.

Commencement of the widening of
Upper Middle Road West between Postmaster and Bronte.
Despite all of the above improvements to the ward, the average property tax
increase over the past 4 years has been minimized at an average of 2.6% which is
the lowest in the GTA.
